The Index Gallery of Contemporary Art is located in the foyer of Waterford City Council’s Central Library, Lady Lane.
The Index Gallery aims to support the arts and artists in the City by offering a contemporary exhibition space and is a natural extension of the Library’s role in the community. It provides a free of charge space for art exhibits which reflect the diverse cultural interests of the City, bringing art into the heart of the community. The gallery is equally accessible to amateurs, professionals, community groups and organisations. Each can showcase their work in order to gain exposure, experience or disseminate information to the general public.
Central Library generates considerable interest, not only among architects but also among those who realise the potential of the space for personal study, leisure, artistic and community activities. Over 10, 000 diverse members of the public attended 567 events at the library in 2012.
