Beginning in 2010, Irish indie label ‘Popical Island’ released their first compiliation, which included Squarehead’s ‘Fake Blood’. This caught the attention of Villagers drummer James Byrne, who released it on 7” via his Any Other City label. The success of the release lead to support slots for Black Lips, No Age, Deer Tick, Male Bonding and Titus Andronicus. Fake Blood was voted Song Of The Year 2009 by Nialler9. Squarehead have released splits with fellow Irish artists; one with Patrick Kelleher, another with So Cow on Inflated Records (US).
The follow-up to first album ‘Yeah Nothing’ released in 2011 is ‘Respect’, an album that takes the band a little further from their surf-pop roots to a grungier sound. The hooks that romanced so many of their fans on the first album are still plentiful but sometimes they’re presented with snarling vocals and thrashing guitars. Support on the night comes in the shape of Waterford psychedelic/alt. rock band Collides €10
