An estimated 80,000 people attended the opening of the Tall Ships Race Waterford in 2011, begining on June 30th. Taoiseach Enda Kenny and renowned illusionist Keith Barry officially launched the festival which saw around 45 vessels ships taking part.
Waterford, which also hosted the Tall Ships event back in 2005, held a number of events across the city, including concerts by Bryan Ferry, the Waterboys and Sharon Shannon.
There were numerous craft and food villages in the city centre to showcase unique foods.
The Tall Ships festival was celebrated with a festival programme capturing the very best Irish and International acts, street theatre, fireworks, food and music.
