The Mayor of Waterford City & County, Cllr. John Cummins launched Waterford’s programme of events marking the centenary of the 1916 rising. The programme is packed full of ideas from individuals and a wide range of groups including community, tidy towns and local history groups, artists and Irish language communities. The programme includes film, theatre, writing, music, drama and memorial gardens. A number of large events are planned starting with the 1848 Tricolour Festival, which recognises the important role that Waterford and Thomas Francis Meagher played in creating our green, white and orange national flag and its significance. This is a once-in-a-century invitation to people of all ages, in Ireland and overseas, to shape and actively engage in a diverse range of historical, cultural and artistic activities designed to facilitate reflection, commemoration, debate and analysis and an active reimagining of our future.
Details of the diverse range of events are available at www.ireland.ie/partners and copies of the programme are available in
libraries throughout City & County. Further information firstname.lastname@example.org +353 (0)761102735.
