Waterford Walls… Street Project
Date(s) - 21/08/2015-23/08/2015
The Viking Triangle and City Centre
Waterford Walls is a three day Street Art Project where the city will become an open air gallery consisting of 20 derelict walls/sites around the city including buildings such as the Old De La Salle, large hoarding and vacant walls which will be transformed with beautiful artwork by 20 local, national and international artists.Alongside this spectacle of artists at work, locals and visitors can enjoy exhibitions; workshops; demos; food trails and live music which will take place over the weekend in various venues throughout the city.
One of the participating artists is the exceptionally talented Kathrina Rupit – Kinmx has travelled from the desert; to the mountains; to forests; and through jungles; translating both experiences and feelings into her artwork…..a strong visual contrast between urban and nature mixed with vivid colour perhaps reflecting her Mexican roots. She likes to use unusual and recycled materials to create works with cultural and environmental awareness.
Equally exciting is the work of another participating artist Myne who is to transform a vacant site on New Street. A member of the MSO Crew, Myne lives & works in Dublin. Alongside letter-based graffiti, he paints abstract images combining elements of the organic, natural world and the rigidity of man-made structures & architecture.
