Waterford Living History
Waterford Living History Society, which incorporates Waterford Vikings, is a self-funded, voluntary group of history enthusiasts who engage in re-enactment of historical eras, especially Waterford’s Viking period.
The group started in March 2011 and now has approximately 30 members, with an age range from 20’s to 70’s. A certain number are qualified to fight with authentic or reproduced metal weapons or have developed a craft or other skill, or both. Others are training to work on costumes and weapons as all members provide their own personal, authentic, clothing, weapons, craft tools etc.
Waterford Living History Society have attended numerous events in their first year together including helping the Mayor switch on the Christmas lights, partaking in the Spraoi weekend celebrations, the Harvest Festival and their most ambitious project being the re-enactment of the Marriage of Strongbow and Aoife for Heritage week.
The inspiration for the group was the development of the Viking Triangle. For the Waterford Living History Society contribute to the amimation of the history of Waterford to those that visit the city.
