1848 Tri-Colour Celebration
The 1848 Tri-Colour Celebration is a cultural and historical event, which commemorates the first unveiling of the Irish Tricolour flag by Thomas Francis Meagher at 33 the Mall in Waterford city. The highlight of the annual event is the official military flag raising ceremony, which will be held on Saturday / Sunday 8 & 9 March 2014.
The programme of events gives Irish people everywhere a platform to celebrate Irish Culture and lasting peace on this island, which Meagher captured beautifully in the colours of ‘An Bhratach Náisinta,’ our national flag. One of the key aims of the celebration is to commemorate Meagher’s vision of peace and equality for Ireland.
“The white in the centre signifies a lasting truce between the ‘Orange’ and the ‘Green’, and I trust that beneath its folds, the hands of the Irish Protestant and the Irish Catholic may be clasped in generous and heroic brotherhood” – Thomas Francis Meagher
